Happy new year, and a Sketchbook update

It’s been just over 6 months since we took over Sketchbook from Autodesk, and we want to let you know how things are coming along.

Our apologies for being quiet here and on social media recently, we have focused our entire team’s efforts on development and have let our social idle over this period. Sketchbook has a long history and is a sizable codebase - being on four platforms makes it even more complicated. So it’s taken us more time than we expected to get familiar with the intricacies and get the wheels rolling smoothly.

We also have put top priority on replying to our support tickets, so if you ever have a question or a problem please reach out to at support@sketchbook.com. Yes, real people do read these emails (even the spam), and reply to them (but not the spam).

Over the next few months, you can expect to see these sequential updates:

Development is already underway to update the color editor on Windows and Mac versions. And we’ve been hard at work investigating some bugs that have been bothering you guys. We also have a long list of feature enhancements, both our own and user requests that will come in subsequent releases.

We know Android users are wondering where their update is. Sketchbook has to update to the latest Android API, this is a requirement from Google for all apps. The new API requires changes to where Sketchbook can save and open files for Android 11 and 12 devices. The safety of your data is of utmost importance and we are spending extra time to make this migration as safe and smooth as possible.

If you are an Android user, please read this article about how to make a backup copy of your data (just to be safe!).

We’ll provide more info here on this data migration before the release is launched. We are also investigating reported issues and updating the color editor as promised.

We want to thank all of you in the Sketchbook community for providing us with invaluable information over the past months. Your feedback helps us prioritize our efforts, points out issues we weren’t aware of, provides the clues to solve mystery bugs, and encourages us to work even harder.

Thanks to everyone for your patience and support!
