Colorful Spoiler

Since the hand-over of Sketchbook to our team, we’ve been in contact with a lot of users about color. Whether producing artwork, journaling or whiteboarding, color is such an essential part of everyone’s Sketchbook workflow.

Our first feature update will introduce a number of new enhancements for color selection.

Many people have reached out to us about how they relied on the Copic colors. Not only for its popular color system, but also for how effective it was with organizing and accessing groups of colors. It even helped those with accessibility challenges to easily select the right hues. We're disappointed about not being able to continue distributing the Copic Library. But we are really excited about the opportunity to deliver new capabilities that build on the spirit of what users love about color.

We will be providing new preset colors. A new library will come with multiple well-organized and easy to browse groups of colors. It will include a comprehensive set that covers the full range of primary, secondary and tertiary colors and a dedicated grey set that will cover the neutral, warm and cool ranges.

The library itself will be fully customizable, so anyone will be able to add new color sets or duplicate an existing set to quickly adapt it for another project.

We’re also adding new capabilities to the Color Editor to provide greater opportunity for discovery.

The top of the Color Editor will be reconfigured to display additional selections. Whenever a new color is selected, the complementary color harmony and a valve-gradient will be updated instantaneously.

A new gradient feature will help with working out color blends. By selecting the two end-colors, a 7-swatch blend will be generated.

Last, we really wanted to make sure to include an easy way to copy and paste in HEX codes. This will be particularly useful when finding a specific color online or when using other creative applications.

We believe this color update to deliver a strong color selection model for new and long-time users alike. This first step gives us a great foundation for future enhancements.

You won’t need to wait long for this update to arrive, we’re close to wrapping up development. Once we’ve completed testing, we’ll begin rolling it out to Sketchbook Pro on Mac and Windows and to Sketchbook on iOS and Android.

This will be the first of many feature updates to come!

Thanks again for all the feedback and support.
