A lot of people are asking about the Autodesk account. What is it? Do I already have one? What information is required? And, the most important, What’s happening to my personal data. Let’s break this down.
Thanks to Rebeccaknowles for asking this question!
What is an Autodesk account?
An Autodesk account is what identifies you from another user. When you contact support, it is what we use to create a case file. For you, it is the username and password you create to access SketchBook. Your username is what you provide when speaking with support. If you ever sign out of the app, use the username and password from your Autodesk account to log back in.
Do I already have one?
If you subscribed to SketchBook, you’ve already created one. If you purchased the Pro Tools, depending on when you did this, you may have one. To check, try signing into sketchbook.com or contact support. If you don’t have one, it’s free to create one.
What information is required?
We ask for your first and last name, email, and to create a password. The final step is to agree to our privacy statement.
There is no address or credit card info required. If you want, you can opt in to receive email communications from Autodesk, but you don’t have to.
Why do you need my email?
This provides us with a way to contact you, privately. We can’t do this through the app stores. When you create a support ticket, we respond back using the email linked to your Autodesk account.
If you have opted in to receiving email from Autodesk, we use it for this.
What happens to my personal data?
In this day and age, this is an important question to ask. Here are answers from out privacy statement:
- Storage, retention, and deletion of your information
- Information and content that you disclose
- Information we receive from and collect about you
- What this privacy statement covers (and what it doesn’t)
- Sharing information inside the Autodesk family of companies
- Sharing information with third parties
- Sharing information with companies, organizations or institutions with which you are affiliated
- Security and integrity of personal information
What will happen to my previous sketches if I log in?
Nothing. If you have to create an Autodesk account, this username and password are used to log into the app on your device or machine. This “unlocks” SketchBook, but doesn’t overwrite or delete your sketches.
If you are within the first 7 days of use, you can access and backup your files without an account. After this “trial” period, the only way to access them is to log into SketchBook. To do this, you need an Autodesk account.
How do I create an Autodesk account?
If you just want to start using SketchBook, follow the instructions below. If you want to check out the trial first, follow the instructions below once it ends.
- With SketchBook downloaded, launch SketchBook.
- A screen appears requiring you to either sign in or create an account.
Tap Create Account, enter your name, email, and a password, then tap Create Account.
