Sketching Oscar de la Renta on the Apple iPad Pro

Earlier this week, SketchBook took a field trip to the de Young art museum in San Francisco. Our goal was to check out the current special exhibit, a retrospective on the famous American fashion designer Oscar de la Renta. His timeless dresses span every style. In addition to hosting a gorgeous exhibit of dresses, the museum was debuting a new way to experience exhibits using an Apple Watch app, which feels like a perfect complement for museum goers.

Our own perfect complement to this exhibit was our new Apple iPad Pro (plus an Apple Pencil), which we used to sketch some of our favorite fashion pieces from this retrospective exhibit. We think SketchBook is a good app for fashion drawing because you can experiment with lots of layers by drawing a figure and creating multiple looks on top of your figure using different layers. Many thanks to fellow museum goers from Fast Company for thinking the same thing! (Appreciate the shout out.)

Watch the video above to learn Renée’s process of fashion sketching the Oscar de la Renta pieces and see the advantages of working with the Apple iPad Pro.
